It has been horror show after horror show in BC Place Stadium. Jim Popp insisted the history doesn't matter.
It appears he's in denial.
And now quarterback "controversy."
Tanner Time was ended 3rd quarter with the Als trailing 15-0 to the Lions.
Josh Neiswander then threw his 1st CFL TD pass to SJ Green restoring hope in the 3rd. Last month, Marsh had come on in relief of Josh to steal a win and expose Montreal to "Marsh Madness" for the first time.
Neiswander would throw another touchdown to Brandon London, but throw 2 interceptions as well, both setting up the Lions with 1st&goals that put the game back out of reach.
"I've never been in here before," Popp joked on the eve the quest for the Als' first win indoors at Vancouver since 2000.
The Als were unable to keep Tanner Marsh out of 2nd&Long situations---no team has been ...
Coach Trestman certainly "won the day".
The former Alouettes' coach gave a video message to the fans and players Sunday before Montreal jumped out to an impressive halftime lead, not to mention a gutsy early 4th quarter comeback.
Problem was, the Als were overwhelmed by the Argos in the 3rd quarter and made just enough mistakes to let Toronto steal back a 37-30 victory to hold onto sole posession of 1st place in the CFL East. The Als fall back to 4-6.
Watch "Coach T" in his video-message that was rolled on the Molson Stadium scoreboard before the game.
Trestman won his NFL head coaching debut 24-21 over the Bengals, who have one of Trestman's former Alouettes Andrew Hawkins on their roster.
"I'll start out by really thanking our fans for really amping it up in the second half and helping our football team," Trestman said. "It ...
On a day of Big Plays and big mistakes by the Alouettes, t his may have been the biggest of the day.
Anthony Calvillo was back at the Alouettes bench during warmup and 1st quarter then watched much of the game from the owners' box at the invitation of Robert Wetenhall.
Down on the field the Als rode big plays on defense and specials teams to big leads, only to need another "Marsh Madness" scoring drive in the final minute.
They came inches shy.
Marsh appeared to throw a game-tying touchdown to Brandon London, who had been held without a catch for almost 8 straight quarters by Argos blanket coverage. But London, who shook off a tackle for yards after the catch, had his right foot come down on the south sideline. His toes remained in bounds, but his heel came down out of bounds.
Marsh had thrown for ...
Montreal Alouettes linebackers Chip Cox and Marc-Olivier Brouillette have been named the CFL's Defensive and Canadian Players of the Month for August.
Cox leads the league in tackles. The 30-year-old has 71 defensive tackles including nine for a loss and three sacks in August. He's also contributed on special teams, racking up six tackles in nine games, but says there's always room for improvement.
“You always are correcting the mistakes. There’s no perfect play so there’s always something to get better for and as long as everyone in the film room understands we can get better we’ll be fine.”
The Alouettes practiced today, ahead of Sundays re-match against Toronto. Quarterback Anthony Calvillo won’t be seeing game action anytime soon after being placed on the 9-game injured list.
The team could take him off the 9-game at any time, but GM Jim Popp said today that if their number one pivot ...
Don't write off the future Hall of Famer. Anthony Calvillo is out, but not down.
The alltime leading passer in pro football history, and holder of virtually every other CFL passing record is on the 9-game injured list, but that does NOT mean his season is over.
This is all the official statement from the Alouettes says:
"The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday that quarterback Anthony Calvillo has been placed on the nine-game injured list for precautionary reasons.
Every CFL team has two opportunities per season to remove a player from the nine-game injured list, and doing so remains an option for the Alouettes and Calvillo, depending on his recovery process."
GM&interim head coach Jim Popp calls the move a precaution that will provide the Als with salary cap relief in the worst-case scenario---that AC really does spend 9 games on the injured list.
In an ongoing online poll ...
