Tinordi, Montreal's 1st-round selection in 2010, played in two exhibition games with the Canadiens that fall, and three more the following pre-season. And the experience hasn't been lost on the big defenceman as he looks to lead the Knights into Cup action in Shawinigan as team captain.
"It was great to to get that experience under my belt and figure out the game a litle bit." said Tinordi. "It's something that I've tried to use coming back to London -- that knowledge and experience."
Tinordi said he talks to his dad, former NHLer Mark Tinordi, quite a bit -- through the season in the ...

Cammalleri returns to Montreal

Former Hab Michael Cammalleri is back in Montreal for the first time since leaving town and surfacing as a member of the Calgary Flames.
Cammalleri returned to Montreal to take in today's Impact game vs. Beckham and the LA Galaxy and spoke to Rick Moffat prior to the opening kickoff -- and today's game broadcast on CJAD.
In his conversation with Rick, Cammalleri talks about the emotion of being back in Montreal; his relationship with Pierre Gauthier; and his relationship with Marc Crawford -- who coached Cammalleri during his stay with the LA Kings.
Crawford is considered a candidate to take over behind the Candiens' bench as head coach.

Habs to go green by recycling another Hawk?

Even before the Canadiens go deeper into their head-coaching hire, CJAD and Sports Illustrated's Mike Farber says an assistant coach could soon be hearing job feelers from Marc Bergevin.
Forget about the Joel Quenneville rumours: the Blackhawk head coach fired Mike Haviland who will soon be on the Habs' hiring radar.
Farber however downplays CJAD sources that that suggest Jacques Lemaire WOULD come out of retirement if the offer was right to return behind the bench. That doesn't mean Lemaire is anything but the perfect candidate. Listen to the raves Farber quotes from Lyle Odelein.
Vote on the new Habs poll concerning Lemaire.

Dudley in Bergevin's sights

The mentor working for the prized pupil? Back in 2006, Hawks assistant GM Rick Dudley took a scout under his wing. Now that scout is in hiring mode as the Habs' GM.
Marc Bergevin and the Canadiens have permission to lure Dudley to the organization as assistant GM (he's currently Leafs' director of player development), as CJAD and Sports Illustrated's Michael Farber predicted Friday.
The only question is timing: Dudley and the Leafs are considering trading up from #5 overall in the June draft. The Canadiens sit at #3.
Insider trading? The Leafs want assurances. The Habs want their man.

It's more of a plea to be realistic.
Did you roll your eyes when newly-minted Habs G-M Marc Bergevin was asked, more than once during his introductory news conference, whether or not he wanted more French players on the Canadiens?
I understand where these kinds of questions are coming from. In a more perfect world, the Canadiens would have more French players on the roster.
But it's time, again, for a reality check. This isn't the 1960's or 1970's when so many NHL players were from Canada.
In case some folks haven't noticed, American and European players make up large parts of team line-ups.
Should the Canadiens work harder at scouting Quebec players? Sure. But that doesn't guarantee quality of talent.
And even if the Habs did have more of a French flavor on the roster, would you be surprised if said ...

HEFTER: Time for talk is over

On more than one occasion during yesterday's news conference at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard -- whether while it was addressing questions about the coaching situation or Scott Gomez' contract -- Marc Bergevin tried to buy a little time by making note of the fact that this was his first day on the job as general manager of the Montreal Canadiens.
Well, Marc. Welcome to day two.
Yesterday's news conference, which was held to introduce Bergevin as the 17th GM in Canadiens' history, was the feel-good hit of the (off) season. Team owner Geoff Molson said all the right things when he announced that the hiring of Bergevin represents the first step in re-establsing a culture of winning in Montreal. It's a theme that the eloquent Molson established the day he announced the firing of Pierre Gauthier as GM.
As for Bergevin, well, it wasn't too long into yesterday's ...

Respect from Scouts' Row for Bergevin The Human Coat-Hanger

Lucien Deblois chuckles at the thought: his next time scouting at the Bell Centre he may just be on the lookout for a whoopie cushion on his chair.
Deblois, the former Montreal Canadiens forward, is the Vancouver scout who recommended the Canucks trade for Marc Bergevin during their 2004 Stanley Cup playoff run.
The Canucks needed an experienced defenseman who could fit the chemistry in the room, maybe even help reset the mood in Vancouver, reeling from the Bertuzzi Affair.
Bergevin was there man---he once joked after breaking his thumb and having a wire sticking out during the healing process that at least he could always hang up his own coat and suit jacket.
But Deblois tells CJAD 800 that Bergevin is a smart, hard-working talent evaluator whose hockey IQ should never be forgotten in the laughs over his gags.

Habs' gain, Hawks' loss

As a Montreal-native, Marc Bergevin will have a sense of the hockey hellhole this city can be when the media turn on you. The Habs' new GM is bilingual, but Blackhawks followers say his sense of humour could be what saves him.
Praised as a warrior and clown by his former teammates, Chicago Sun-Times beat writer Adam Jahns says don't let the smiles and the jokes mask a shrewd eye for talent.
Bergevin helped Dale Tallon, Stan and Scotty Bowman turn an also-ran Original Six franchise into a Stanley Cup winner. Here's how:

Bergevin braced for Habs challenge

Marc Bergevin will be confirmed as Habs' GM this afternoon, hours after CJAD and Sports Illustrated's Michael Farber confirmed it on the Andrew Carter Morning Show.
In his playing days he'd often use an amusing alias---Denis Lemieux, a character from the classic hockey comedy of the 70's Slapshot---but CJAD confirmed Tuesday that Bergevin was in town staying under his own name.
Bergevin was a finalist along with former CJAD broadcaster Pierre McGuire, former Habs' assistant Julien Brisebois and other intriguing candidates ranging from Jim Nill of the Red Wings to former Avalanche GM Francois Gigeure.
Who could Bergevin favor as the next Habs' Coach? In his final season he played for a bilingual bench boss named Marc Crawford.
Journal de Montreal Habs' beat reporter JF Chaumont says Bergevin's outgoing personality could also be the perfect foil for the volcanic Patrick Roy.

Subban suffered what the Montreal Canadiens have termed a minor knee injury in the first period of Sunday's opening pre-tournament game against Switzerland. With the tournament set to begin Friday, the Habs announced that Subban's stint at the World's is over, and he will be returning to Montreal.
Assistant general manager Larry Carriere made the announcement in a release issued by the Habs tnoight. The release goes on to say that Subban suffered a minor knee injury that would have sidelined him for approximately two weeks.
He'll be re-evaluated by team doctors.
