Citing “personal reasons”, the team made the announcement in a press release this afternoon.
Lalonde joined the Alouettes in March 2011, replacing Larry Smith. He was considered by some as a micro-manager and there were rumours that friction had developed with football operations. But Alouettes Chairman Paul Harris said while Ray may not have always seen eye to eye with his colleagues, his departure was unrelated.
“I’ve heard these stories before. In a sports organization there are a lot of big egos, all the way around. And that’s not to say that Ray didn’t butt heads with certain people, he did, and people butted heads with him. People have been there for a long time and had their own ideas, but nothing that rose to the level of anything out of the ordinary.”

The Als brought on two CIS quarterbacks in the last 24 hours, McMasters Kyle Quinlan and Acadia's Kyle Graves.
But even if they manage to crack the roster, don't expect anyone to threaten the starting position of Anthony Calvillo. Trestman says the starting job is still firmly in the hands of the 40 year old future hall of famer, and there are no plans to lessen his playing time this year.
“We’re going to play Anthony as long as he wants to play. And it will be up to him and only him if we make any changes. But our discussions with him and my discussions with him haven’t changed in terms of our plan. The 23 year old McMaster quarterback signed a two deal with the club this afternoon and says it still hasn’t really sunk in.
“Pretty surreal, very excited. I got passed over in the draft, from there I was pretty disappointed but I was still holding on to hope for a training camp invite. And then I heard yesterday morning from my agent that Montreal was interested and I jumped all over that chance and got it all done by today.”
Quinlan has made quite a name for himself in the CIS, leading the Marauders to their first-ever Vanier Cup title last year. He completed almost 65 per cent of his passes in the regular season with 13 touchdowns and just two interceptions. On top of that, in the playoffs, he was named MVP in the Yates Cup, Uteck Bowl and ...

Als adding more bodies day after draft

The Montreal Alouettes have their supplemental protected lists in and by the end of the day they'll add to their talent haul of Canadian rookie prospects.
Popp is hoping to have more recruits at training camp less than a month away at Bishops University campus, possibly including Bo Adebayo who has a workout with the NFL's Detroit Lions starting next Thursday.
After taking 6 players in the draft yesterday, all CFL teams submit wish-lists from undrafted players, but the league office sorts out those requests by order of team rankings through a waiver system.
Popp apologizes for missing his 8:25 interview window on the Andrew Carter Morning Show because of a surprise call from Head Coach Marc Trestman, so listen hear to Popp's full review of the Draft Class of 2012 Alouette Newbies:

New recruits could make quick impact

As the CFL Draft came to a close it became clear the Alouettes juggled immediate need with their longterm building plan. They went homegrown with their first and last picks, and all over the college football map in between.
The final Als' selection is a familiar name--Ryan White--and a Montreal native. But Ryan White will never be mistaken on the streets of Montreal for the Montreal Canadien of the same name.
White the offensive lineman, from Bishops University, is 6'4, 300 (then again maybe Bergevin wants to keep the Habs getting bigger!?) and a product of the Vanier College football factory.
Top pick Patrick Lavoie (at the right hoisting the Vanier Cup) tells CJAD his goal is to make the club on special teams play so that he can have a sideline view of his girlfriend performing at Molson Stadium. Turns out the receiver-turned-fullback is a special teams beast whose ...

Als go homegrown, then grab NFL prospect

In the first 2 rounds of the CFL draft the Alouettes have looked in their own backyard and gone south. Bo Adebayo was Montreal's 2nd selection but could keep the team waiting much longer than their opening round selection.
Adebayo, a 6'3 265-pound d-lineman from the University of Western Kentucky, has a tryout with the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Lavoie has a short move from Quebec City to Montreal to further his football career. The Laval running back could be a beast on special teams and groomed for reserve duty at fullback to help protect Anthony Calvillo.
Lavoie, 6'2 240, from the Gaspe' town of Ste. Flavie, Quebec was a member of the 2010 Vanier Cup championships team.
As usual, the Als bucked the trend of the CFL's scouting rankings, with University of Sherbrooke talents Ismael Bamba and teammate Simon Charbonneau-Campeau up for grabs.

2012 may be no exception.
With 2 of his 2011 draft picks having signed free agent deals in the NFL (Brody McKnight, a kicker, and centre Phil Blake) Popp goes into the CFL Canadian Draft with no 1st round pick and no rush to fill holes.
Popp may have lost some reliable Canadians like Paul Woldu, Danny Desriveaux and Walter Spencer but says there is no added pressure to draft for 'the now'.
The Alouettes draft table team of Popp, assistant GM Marcel Desjardins, scouts Joey Abrams and Uzooma Okeke and assistant coach Jean-Marc Edme have each come up with their lists of talent ...

Former Alouette eligible Bachelor

Brad Smith, the son of former Alouettes president turned Senator Larry Smith, is the new star of Canada's version of the reality show The Bachelor. Smith was briefly an Alouette after having been drafted by the Toronto Argonauts.
Smith is a free agent in football terms, but will tape the show in hopes of finding love and romance. He says his parents are classic examples of "not opposites attract, but where he lacks something she makes up for it...I'm gonna get chirped by my Mom for this..."

“It’s going well. We’ve got a lot of young talent down here competing running around. I think it’s going very well for the new guys trying to learn the offence and for us trying to get acclimated with them and be on the same time and I think for two days it’s going pretty well.”
A typical day at the camp involves an early morning wake-up call, breakfast, meetings, walk through, and then installing some of the plays they’ll being using during training camp to bring some of the rookies up to speed. And with such a jam packed three days, even though the beach is right around the corner, ...

Trestman: from NFL draft to Tebow to AC

It has been an unusually busy offseason for Coach Trestman. So busy he had little time for one of his favorite offseason chores---mentoring top QBs headed into the NFL draft.
One of Trestman's former "qb-school" grads Tim Tebow was on the move, the NFL's been rocked by Bounty and Spy Scandals, and the Als have had a coaching staff to rejig.
