But a number of people have been telling me they heard about the warnings through the media and are less than impressed, to say the least, with how officials tried to contact them about them about the biggest such advisory in the city's history.
Then the problem became this; people worried about their health after consuming some water AFTER the warnings went out.
What about you? How were you advised? Are you satisfied with the city's communication system?

Nothing funny about blackface so-called humor

One of my guests tonight was a Montreal woman by the name of Nydia Dauphin who recently wrote a blog for the Huffington Post asking the question, "Why The Hell Are Quebec Comedians Wearing Blackface?"
Very good question.
In this instance, Dauphin was upset, and rightfully so, that comedian Mario Jean (pictured) painted his face black for an awards show called the Gala Les Olivier, that aired on Radio-Canada.
Dauphin believes a big part of the problem is a lack of education, or in other words, ignorance. I could not agree more.
You can hear my entire interview with Dauphin by clicking on the arrow below the picture.

I agree, as do so many others. It is an awful piece of proposed legislation. And many have been wondering why the federal government has been so silent on this issue.
According to Kay, Ottawa can veto Bill 14. He says that under Section 90 of the constitution, the federal cabinet,
with the authority of the governor general, can disallow any provincial legislation it sees as unjust. No vote in parliament is required.
This veto power was referred to in the Confederation debates, and was a sacred promise made to all minorities of Canada that the federal government would always step in whenever a province violated the rights or privileges of its minority citizens.
The question remains; why has Ottawa been so silent on an issue ...

Equality Party 2.0 looking for new members

Are you interested in becoming a member of the Equality Party 2.0?
The new party is looking to add members to its ranks after forming within the past few months, following the election win last September of the PQ.
Party president Allan Finkelstein joined me tonight, announcing the party's general meeting for the recruitment of new members. It will be held Sunday May 26 from 2pm-4pm at the Hotel Hampton Inn & Suites located at 1900 Trans-Canada Highway.
The speakers include party leader Mark Bergeron, Howard Galganov, Hugo Shabbeare (spokesperson for the Quebec Office for the English language) and Debra Shapiro-Lambersky (President the Equality Party 2.0 Youth Wing).
The Equality Party 2.0 brands itself as the"only Quebec political party that 100% supports a return to sanity, equality of rights, and freedom of choice in all business linguistic matters, investment and tourist friendly policies, and the promotion of tolerance in everyday ...

A rape survivor, not a rape victim

As many as 25% of North American women are likely to be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. Sarelle Sheldon was raped two years ago in Montreal and she is talking about it, writing about it, to let people know that she is a survivor.
And Sheldon hopes others will be able to speak out as well.
Sheldon was raped in Montreal in August 2011 when someone slipped the date-rape drug into her drink. She was left in an alley. The next morning, she awoke in a hospital bed.
Her attacker has never been arrested.
But Sheldon shows remarkable courage in speaking out. And in the video below, you can watch her talking publically for the first time about the attack.

Under the headline, "They're crazy, those Anglos", Akos Verboczy writes that "I have always found our anglophones a bit crazy." While, he writes, they are not as crazy as Richard Bain "they are only suffering from a sort of paranoid-obsessive mental instability, unleashed when Quebec is the topic."
The article also says Anglophones call Quebecers racists and xenophobes. And that while real racism also exists on the Francophone side "it is never with the same zeal, that obsession and quasi-unanimity that characterizes anglophone public opinion."
He also wrote that in the movie Mister Lahzar, he's the perfect immigrant. I spoke with Marc Bergeron, whose story was featured in that report. Marc became involved in politics because he couldn't accept that a paramedic wouldn't speak to him in English despite the fact Marc's daughter last fall was suffering from a seizure.
That incident led Marc to become the leader of the Equality Party 2.0.
And he talked about the hope that stories such as the one on the BBC will convince the PQ to abondon legislation that stomps on individual human rights.

The fear of a terror attack in Canada

The world as many of us knew it changed forever on September 11, 2001. North America was not immune to a devastating terrorist attack.
Almost 12 years later, there has only been more evidence of that fact. The most recent examples are the Boston bombings and the arrests of two Canadians accused of targetting Via Rail.
A survey conducted for the Association for Canadian Studies finds that a majority of Canadians are concerned about the possibility of a terror attack in Canada. The figure is 53%, up from 44% in March.
You can certainly count me among the majority. I am very concerned and what makes it worse is that an attack can happen anywhere, any day. It's very curious to see that so many people are actually not worried about the possibility that terrorists will attack somewhere in Canada.
I discussed this tonight Jack Jedwab, the executive director of ...

Life after death

Do you believe in life after death? Many people do, many others do not.
I had as a guest tonight Maclean's senior writer Brian Bethune who investigated a series of so-called life after death experiences, such as the story of a 12-year-old girl who told her father how she was comforted during her near death experience by her brother. As Brian wrote, "Except that she didn’t have a brother. Her tearful father then told her about the son who had died three months before her birth."
There's also the story of "Colton Burpo, now 13, 'died' 10 years ago from a ruptured appendix, and spent three minutes of earthly time in heaven—some of it in Jesus’s lap, some of it speaking with a miscarried sister whose existence he had never been told about, before being pulled back to Earth by his surgical team."
It's a fascinating read.
