His Beckham-ness, "The Goddess" as Eduardo Sebrango teasingly called him, gave an Impact fan the shirt off his back, tossing his sweaty jersey into the stands.
The squeels of delight were easily audible up in the CJAD 800 broadcast booth, as was the roar of cheers AND jeers when he bent a free kick high past his former teammate Donovan Ricketts to wipe out a 1-0 lead of the Impact.
Beckham was booed every time he touched the ball, but when he scored, the crowd was so thrilled by his display they cheered the Impact's opponent. In fact 24% of Impact fans had voted on CJAD.com admitting they preferred seeing the biggest star in MLS score over the Impact winning.

The game is officially sold out, but not even the Impact can give a precise figure, confirming that more than 60,000 are heading inside.
Scalpers are asking $50 and up for $20 cheapest seats or standing room, up to $300 for better seats in the lower bowl at Olympic Stadium. The increased revenue for the Impact at the gate could be more than $1.26 million (based on an average ticket price of $30).

The LA Galaxy star spoke to the media this afternoon about artificial turf, about the team's struggles this season and how the Kings are making LA proud.

Beckham spoke to the media in LA today, and says he's got a lot of respect for Impact coach Jesse Marsch...but that he’s still looking to come out on top this weekend.
“It’s great to see players, you know young managers and ex player go into management like Jesse. It’s a credit to what he’s done in his career and credit to him as a person, and to Montreal as well for giving him a chance. It’s something that’s great to see when players that have had successful careers and go into management. So good luck to him... but I hope we have one over him.”

A Toronto assistant wanted at Marsch at game end--there had been a scuffle among players in the opening half--but while Marsch did not back down, nor did he show any interest in the postgame emotional fracas.
The Impact return to training Thursday afternoon, preparing for the LA Galaxy Saturday afternoon, a game you'll hear live on CJAD at 3:45. You can win tickets tomorrow morning on the Andrew Carter Morning Show. Be listening at 7:25 to find out how (*hint follow @CJADsports on twitter).
Toronto wins the CONCACAF semifinal series 2-0 on aggregate.
A surprisingly high percentage of voters on the Impact poll at www.cjad.com say they want to see Beckham score even more than they want to see the Impact win.

Bracing for Beckham Effect

With more than 50,000 Impact fans expected at Olympic Stadium Saturday afternoon to see David Beckham, it begs the question: can the Impact prevent him from putting on too good a show?
Coach Jesse Marsch says it will take several factors from several key players to contain Becks in a game that will be broadcast live on CJAD 800.
Could Beckham be a no-show?
"They (LA Galaxy) need the points. I know the city is excited..we'll be ready."
"It'll just be sweeter when we come out with a victory," chimed in Patrice Bernier, who played Beckham only once in pre-season.
"There is no 'because he's David Beckahm' so just have to keep the good streak going at home."
"The Goddess is coming," said a straight-faced Eduardo Sebrango, perhaps something lost in his mental translation from spanish.

Di Vaio has confirmed he's leaving Bologna and says he's coming to Montreal.
But there are other MLS offers on the table and De Santis is not taking anything for granted.
The Impact make their first foray into the free-spending world of "designated players" with a 4 year offer including the remainder of this season, and 2 option years after 2013.
De Santis suggests bad weather won't even scare Di Vaio off---his scouting mission to Italy included a game postponed because of snow---so the Impact scouted Matteo Ferrari as well.
Bernardo Corradi has also been working on De Vaio to come here.

The Impact say he ain't heavy, he's their striker, in the lineup as soon as early June perhaps.
The Bologna leading scorer confirms he's got an offer from Impact owner Joey Saputo for the rest of 2012 and 2013.
He hasn't signed yet because he's got 2 more games to play in Italy, but this youtube video will get you stoked for what he can do with Corradi.

Enter another veteran Italian with MLS in his future. As CJAD sources have suggested, Joey Saputo does indeed want a Designated Player and is content to wait until that man can have an Impact in June.
Marco Di Vaio can make the Impact better instantly. He'll also see familiar faces in Corradi and Ferrari.
CJAD's Grant Needham says the dream of making the playoffs in their debut season could be just a signature away.

Impact 2-0 over Portland: Arnaud misses goal, but wins dinner

Bernardo Corradi scored for the 3rd straight game and Sinisa Ubiparipovic added the insurance goal after subbing in for Nyassi and the Impact jumped up to a share of 4th place in the East in their debut season of MLS.
Captain Davy Arnaud was a ferocious competitor all over the field, but early in the game missed an easy "gimme" just inside the 6-yardline and Montreal settled for a 0-0 draw at halftime.
Arnaud was a force all over the field in a game that pitted him against his former teammate and roommate Jack Jewsbury, the captain of the Portland Timbers.
Arnaud made a friendly wager with Jewsbury, who made a dinner date for after the game. Presumably Arnaud wins 3 points as well as a hearty meal at Jewsbury's expense.
