ALS NEARING CFL TRADE DEADLINE
OCT. 9 PLAYOFF TICKETS ON SALE
ALS PLAYERS VOW TO MAKE IT UP TO FANS THANKSGIVING MONDAY VS. CATS

CJAD sources suggest the Als will NOT be active leading up to Wednesday afternoon's CFL Trade Deadline (3:59PM Oct. 8).  The Als DO have a surplus of skilled and veteran Canadian offensive lineman, but they know their priority remains keeping Anthony Calvillo healthy over the final 4 weeks.

The Als have clinched home field advantage in the EASTERN FINAL SATURDAY AFTERNOON NOVEMBER 15 (starting with the Oxycair Technologies Pregame Show at Noon).   The Als matched their 2002 and '03 Teams by locking up the East Crown on Week 14.

Calvillo and Hamilton rookie Quinton Porter's airshow on Saturday set a CFL record for Most Completions in a game.   It likely also marked the first time in Nouveau Alouettes history that 3 different Als had 10 catches or more in the same game.

Cahoon passed Ray Elgaard for the alltime lead in regular season receptions---most by any Canadian receiver in CFL history.  Cahoon, a certain Canadian Football Hall of Famer, chuckled before the game when asked by CJAD about his one and only attempt to make the NFL.

"I was at Tampa Bay Buccaneers mini-camp for all of 2-1/2 days and guess who the quarterback was who threw to me?" Cahoon asked rhetorically.  "Scott Milanovich (the Als Offensive Co-ordinator) and I bet he doesn't even remember me."

"No I don't," laughs Milanovich when asked about it.  "I was just trying to hang onto my job as 3rd string QB in the NFL and I wasn't paying too much attention to who all those free agent receivers we were working out.  But I did catch up with one of our scouts recently in Toronto and he reminded me that Ben made what that scout still considers to be the greatest catch he's ever seen a football player make in practise."

Cahoon also recounted a curious phone-encounter with the previous leading receiver among Canadians.  See Rick Moffat's blog for details.  Suffice it to say here that Elgaard warned Cahoon before his first season in the CFL: "You won't be breaking any of my ___^%%$#!!@! records."
