How do we avoid tragedies like the Utoeya massacre?
Utoeya, Aurora, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Polytechnique, Columbine... these are just a few names on the long list of public massacres in recent years.
The instigating factors vary (hatred, racism, mental illness) but uniformly, they all leave us feeling shocked and empty, and ultimately, wondering what went wrong.
Ron Crelinsten, a terrorism expert and former criminology professor at University of Ottawa (and a former Montrealer and CJAD listener!) explains that it's possible to avoid these tragedies... provided the right people take notice of warning signs.
And, CBS reporter Terri Schultz talked to Barry about the reaction in Norway to Anders Breivik's guilty verdict and sentencing to 21 years in jail.
