AARON: On Amir Khadir's rationale for declaring Paul Rose a hero

If you look in the dictionary next to the word "ass", you may soon find a picture of Amir Khadir, the Quebec Solidaire co-leader, who says he will table a motion in the national assembly next week, to have former terrorist Paul Rose declared a hero. This is the same Paul Rose, convicted terrorist and murderer, who was responsible bringing violence, fear, intimidation, and eventually murder to the streets of Montreal.

Here's Khadir's rationale for declaring Rose a hero.
"You may have the reservations he had about his past in the FLQ, but no one can question his sincerity, his devotion, his integrity, his intellectual honesty.''

By that measure, perhaps Mr. Khadir would, at the same time, like to rise in the house, and suggest that Adolf Hitler be declared a hero too. After all, reservations about his past aside, it would be difficult to question his sincerity, devotion, and integrity too...

    So Mr Khadir should we all go out and terrorize and kill to get our own way in society?

    If everyone has different views would the killing ever stop?

    And when the killing is done should we then be glorified for our "integrity" ??
    (my dictionary has a completely different explanation for this word than yours it would seem)

    You should definitely not be in politics Mr Khadir - only those who understand and practice integrity should be leaders. Step down you are a disgrace to the calling.

    His email address is perfect. Assnat. But he might have a point. I would consider a rose thing if we rename khadirs riding Reza Phalavi. It's not all his fault cause when rose was on his terror spree, khadir was cleaning camel dung. He was an expert at that and should go back and take up the family business.

    Mr. Khadir.
    While I respect your right to comment on the death of Paul Rose, your suggestion that he is a hero is a blatant distorted version of history. I would suggest that your training, experience and talent as a medical specialist in infectious microbiology would better serve Quebec society if you RESIGNED as MNA for Mercier and devoted your time and energy to the medical profession rather than being an embarrassment to so many Quebecois.

    I strongly believe Khadir is an IDIOT putting it mildly,he wants to honour a terrorist that led the FLQ that murdered 6 or 7 Quebecers..At that time people were afraid to go to a mail box because there could be a bomb..I believe him and his famous daughter should go back to his country and try this kind of nonsense there..CANADA is a beautifull contry with Quebec inside it..If you remember Mr. Trudeau had to bring the Army here all for a couple of hundred bums that held us all hostage French and English..I cannot believe an A-- H--- like Khadir who lives a good life here continues with his nonsense even backing the Carre Rouge..I could continue but i will end it here for now..Also i strongly agree with the comments that Mr. Aaron Rand posted..

    Aaron Rand - I was planning to write about Amir Khadir and vent, vent, vent. You spoiled everything - you wrote this first - I couldn't have summed-it-up better.

    I bristled to hear M. Khadir imply that Paul Rose had recognized his "mistake" (a reconnu son erreur) and was rehabilitated, thus entitling him to be now considered with the same respect as a any other member of society. Not once does M. Khadir speak the words "crime" or "murder" in regards to M. Rose. Not once does M. Khadir acknowledge that an innocent man, an elected member of parliament, like himself, was kidnapped in front of his family and gratuitously murdered.Also, to my knowledge, as a former penitentiary employee where Paul Rose served part of his term, Paul Rose never really showed significant remorse or regret for the murder for which he was convicted. Pierre Laporte's death to him was only regrettable in that it was "collateral damage" in the persuit of his "just" cause.?? He served out his 10 year minimum plus 2 years and was released as was the usual case for life sentences at that time, but he also remained technically "on parole" for the rest of his life as is the case for all "life sentences" for murder. What exactly is there to "celebrate" or commemorate about this man's life ? In closing think that CJAD has made their point very well, however I feel that the point being made, we should not insist on making this into something more than it is: the rantings of a "misguided" radical leftist who appears to becoming a burden to his own party as I am sure that Fraçoise David is gringing right now.

    No one can question the sincerity and devotion of the Al-Qaida members who brought down the World Trade Center either. Should we honour them as well?

    As someone who lived through the crisis and still have flashbacks of a neighbour's fingers blown off at the corner of Holton and Barat Rd. , I think Khadir is repugnant and vile.

    Here we go again with the nazi reference...

    Adolf Hitler did not repent and did not do prison for his crimes.

    Paul Rose did pay for his crime (even if he wasn't on the murder scene) and then went on with another life devoted to his ideas and defending people in need. What he meant is that he is an example of rehabilitation and our society is supposed to encourage such rehabilitation, not succomb to vengence and at least be able to recognize his "other life".

    But I guess any opportunity for nationalist or Québec Bashing is always good for some people...

    I suspect that Khadir takes these provactive stances in order to elicit emotional responses , from which I assume he gets gratification. If he was not an MP , I would just say "leave him to his miserable life, watch him for any suspicious activities and don't give him any press". I am more concerned by the people who have re elected him in this past election than I am for him. What kind of people are they that they would make the same mistake twice and elect a lunatic.
