Who's Next: Jones?
Five years ago my informal survey of Alouette players predicted their fiery defensive coordinator Chris Jones would be a good fit as head coach.
Five years later Chris Jones is mature enough to be loving his current coaching gig and letting the job offer come to him.
Jones will surely be on a candidates list GM Jim Popp is preparing for owner Robert Wetenhall. Since leaving Montreal he has proven himself a creative defensive master with Calgary and Toronto.
His defenses have outschemed Trestman and Calvillo in the 2008 Grey Cup and the 2012 East Final, the springboard to the Argos' convincing win over Calgary in the 100th Grey Cup.
Jones in a CJAD 1-on-1 applauds Trestman's hire by the Chicago Bears and speaks of his own maturity, as well as his CFL coaching roots under "The Don"---Don Mathews in Montreal.
Other candidates could include former Eskimos head coach and Alouette assistant Danny Maciocia, now with the Universite' de Montreal Carabins as well as a number of current US college and even NFL assistants who will be intrigued by the "Trestman Route" back to the NFL.
