The Bill 78 debate

Posted By: Barry Morgan · 5/30/2012 10:03:00 PM

A lot of people have said a lot of things recently about Bill 78, ever since the law was passed in the National Assembly. Some people are fans of the law, others say it is draconian and repressive.

On the program tonight, we organized a Bill 78 debate with attorney's Anne-France Goldwater and Julius Grey. Goldwater is in favor of the law, Grey is not. Both presented their points of view very well.

And as you can imagine, there were some fireworks. You don't have to imagine, you can listen.

That was anything but a good debate. That was one person screaming personal attacks. And another trying to explain something I couldn't hear.
I would really like an intelligent elevation of the debate. Next time, could u get someone who disagrees with it on some sort of law level. NOT a personal one?
    Just sayin'.
    Not impressed.

@decarie Blvd It's funny hearing Anne-France Goldwater say words like "freedom and democracy" when she insulted an author on a book show on CBC--this author was a freedom fighter against the Pinochet regime in Chile. I will take that to mean she's a fan of the old fascist dictator of Chile.

Once again CJAD lurches dangerously to the right and once again employs someone like Anne-France Goldwater who can't debate on the issue at hand, but launches character assaults against Julius Gray. Sad that someone like Barry Morgan is a party to it and he quietly applauds Goldwater. *Sigh!

Anne-France Goldwater shouldn't participate in this kind of debate. Her performance was ......... disappointing for a lawyer.
