Get ready for no NHL hockey

Posted By: Barry Morgan · 9/3/2012 10:07:00 PM

With each passing day, it's looking more likely the NHL will lock out its players later this month.

The deadline to reach a new collective bargaining agreement is September 15th, less than two weeks away, and the sides aren't even talking.

As union boss Donald Fehr put it, the talks are in recess and have been since Friday.

I spoke tonight with NHL analyst and former Canadiens defenseman Brian Engblom about the labor situation. He's not very optimistic a lock-out can be avoided.

Here we go again. Rich people arguing about money while those of us who actually work hard for every penny go without one of our chief sources of entertainment.

For SHAME. Shame on both sides.

Hockey is no longer about a puck on the ice, it's about money. We have advertising on the boards, arenas named after businesses and cities that want teams won't get them all because of greedy rich people.

    For SHAME.

The most beloved players in hockey played at a time when they needed second jobs just to make ends meet. I'm not suggesting we go back to THAT but NOBODY needs to earn millions of dollars - on either side - just to play a game.

How many of the best NHL players from Montreal actually play here? Why? Too much money.

They canceled 2004-05 without caring about the effects on Joe Average like me or the people whose livelihoods depend on NHL hockey being played. Nope. Gary Bettman and his greedy cohorts simply rubbed their hands in glee as they "broke the union".

I am not a union man normally but greed is greed. And enough is enough.

Bettman and his greedy cohorts have ruined the game.

    For SHAME.
