Students need to live in the real world

Posted By: Barry Morgan · 2/26/2013 1:15:00 PM

Hardly surprising is the fact that no consensus was reached at the so-called Education Summit that lasted less than 48 hours.

ASSE rallied its supporters for another demonstration today over the issue of tuition fee hikes. But what's the issue?

We're talking about a 3% increase for next September that amounts to about 70-dollars a year. That's $1.35 a week!

And this is why students are back on street? Imagine how easy it would be to earn $70.00 instead of wasting their time and frustrating so many others.

I wonder what some of these students will do when, one day, they'll ask their boss for a raise. If they don't get one, will they start organizing protests?

I understand there's a financial burden for many students.

But there's no such thing as a free lunch. If you want a university education, you should be willing to pay for it.

What newspeople never mention is what kind of students are marching. I don't think that you will find medical students, engineers, and other career-oriented people marching in the streets. They don't have the time nor the interest. The street students are studying in Arts, Philosophy, Sociology, Atnhropology, etc. These are jobs that governments throw money in to keep social peace. These students will live on social programs and welfare for the rest of their lives one way or another.

Barry does not know where the money will come from for free tuition. The money is already collected from all of us in our taxes. It is being wasted by our government. We hear every day how our city and provincial government spend 30% extra for construction. Quebec spends 5 billion dollars every year .30% of that is 1.5 billion dollars which would almost cover the entire tuition bill. All the government has to do is it's job.... properly and not waste our taxes by ineptitude.
