One man's message to Prime Minister Harper
Howard Glazer is an average joe, with a strong message for Prime Minister Stephen Harper over the Quebec Charter of Values.
He joined Barry today, but you can read his post below:
Dear Prime Minister Harper,
I hope you are well. You are no doubt fully aware of all the latest news coming out of Quebec. As a Canadian citizen, I would like to formally ask that you and the Federal Government get involved and actively intervene in the foolishness taking place in Quebec called the "Charter of Values." Many are calling it racist, xenophobic and prejudice. All these descriptions are accurate and I would like to add that they are all deliberate, not an unfortunate after effect but a pure deliberate and conscious act of prejudice. This deplorable act is being perpetrated by a Premiere and Government operating in Canada under the Federal Government.
Whereas I enjoy living in Montreal and the Province of Quebec, my passport is Canadian and I am a citizen of Canada. As such, I expect the Canadian government to protect me and all the citizens of Canada regardless of what Province we live in. In this case the threat is real and it is coming directly from Premiere Pauline Marois and her Government. We cannot have Provincial charters and laws that blatantly work in opposition to the rights and freedoms that we enjoy and expect as citizens of Canada. The Federal Government must step up and and say enough is enough. No Canadian citizen should feel the need to leave their home and move to a different part of the same country because the Federal Government is unwilling to do what is necessary to maintain Canadian values and freedoms in every and all Provinces.
Truthfully, I have no clue what you can or should do. Quebec politics and language issues are a deep and miserable abyss and I can certainly understand why the Federal Government would want to stay away. However, how much worse do things in Quebec really need to get under the PQ Government before you do something about it? Make no mistake, this is not just a Provincial problem. It affects Canada and how other view it. Newspapers around the world have already reported on this and it is not only Quebec that is shamed and becomes a laughing stock but also the Country that allows it to happen.
I fully understand that there are many pressing items on your agenda and Canada is a big country to govern. That being said, you are a strong leader with a lot of smart people working for you, surely all those great minds can figure out a way to put an end to all this nonsense. I have always been a supporter of your government and hold you in high regard. I am beseeching you to prove yet again that you are a leader for ALL Canadians.
