Shame on parents who publically shame their kids
There is a growing phenomenon, parents who shame their kids in public in order to discipline them. These are parents who've run out of ideas.
One example, a California mom made her daughter stand on a street corner with a sign that said "I was Disrespecting My Parents by Twerking at my School Dance." Now, if you think this was inappropriate behaviour on the part of the 11 year old girl, that's one thing. But making her stand on a street corner with a sign telling everyone how badly she behaved will get her to act better?
I don't think so.
Yelling and hitting aren't an option either, as far as I'm concerned.
My wife and I are on the same page in this regard. And when our son misbehaves, we withhold something that means a lot to him, like his favorite toys or video games.
I'm not a fan of embarrassing my son. I don't see how publically shaming him would do any good for his self-esteem or future behaviour.
