Shocking: 'Obesity letter' for trick or treaters
A Fargo, North Dakota woman has ignited a storm of controversy after deciding to give an "obesity letter" instead of treats to trick or treaters she feels are "moderately obese."
Identified only as "Cheryl", her letter addressed to parents says: “You are probably wondering why your child has this note. Your child is, in my opinion, moderately obese and should not be consuming sugar and treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season. My hope is that you will step up as a parent and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits.”
Cheryl's heart may be in the right place but her brain went on vacation.
There's no doubt that there's an obesity crisis in North America but doesn't Cheryl realize that overweight kids know they're overweight? Why do they have to be humiliated this way?
If she wanted to send a message, she could hand out fruit instead of candy to any kid who rings her bell.
