The man behind 'No Dogs or Anglophones'
Are you familiar with the 'No Dogs or Anglophones' blog? It's been around for several years, run by a Montreal man who's very passionate about anglo rights.
Until today, the blog's author has been anonymous. But he felt the time was right to lift the veil of anonymity and I'm proud to say that Philip Berlach chose my show to lift that veil.
Berlach is a former businessman who was also an organizer and fund-raiser on the federal, provincial and municipal level.
He wanted an outlet but doesn't think that, simply because as an anglo he has some issues, that he's a so-called angryphone. We discussed a wide range of topics including the fact he believes in the preservation of the French language and culture. But not at the expense of the anglophone community, not by persecuting anglos.
Berlach also believes that militants use the politics of language "as a wedge issue to drive Quebecers madly towards sovereignty." And that wedge has convinced too many people to leave.
Berlach's own son is a McGill-educated doctor who couldn't find work here, so he moved to New York. That leaves family reunions and holidays to see his son, wife and grandkids.
The good news is that Berlach has no intention of pulling the plug on his blog anytime soon.
