Try to make sense of interview with OQLF

Posted By: Barry Morgan · 12/17/2013 3:31:00 PM

Based on a report that a complaint was filed with the Office Quebecois de la Langue Francaise because two workers at a local hospital were speaking Creole to one another, we called the OQLF to speak with an official there.

And I did speak today with Jean-Pierre Le Blanc, a spokesman for the language police. He confirmed that, yes, Quebecers can communicate among themselves in the language of their choice at work.

So why wasn't the complaint thrown in the garbage?

See if you can make sense of how Mr Le Blanc explained the on-going investigation.

Oh, this is ridiculous! Are we not even allowed to speak whatever language we want amongst ourselves?? Are these people missing a gene or something?

A local grocery store in Pincourt fired an employee for speaking too much English on the job. The employee complained to the Quebec Labor Board and before the case could go to court, the grocery store "settled" out of court on the condition that the employee not go public with the situation.

Funny, but I have to ask, I have just listened to a conversation that was at a Quebec government office that has taken place in English (not French) and has now been on the internet and is being listened to all over the world. Why is this being allowed by the language police??? According to this conversation, Jean-Pierre Le Blanc should be charged under the Quebec Language laws for having this conversation in English! Who should we complain too??? These idiots need to grow up , get a life and get out of everone's personal lives!!!

Why don't these people get a life ? They are basically telling people how to live their lives. In my book this is called slavery and this was outlawed a long time ago.Why doesn't Stephen Harper and the Canadian government grow some balls and protect us Canadians? I also thought the OQLF was supposed to tone things down. What a useless insignificant organization and what a waste of tax payers money.

Anyone wonder why it's called OFFICE Québécois de la langue Francais and not bureau? "Here at the OFFICE we know" did anyone else catch that on the sound clip?

This comes right after the "Francophobia" nonsense - and they wonder why they get bad press? These clown create it all on their own. What a joke.

This is SO oppressive!! I left Quebec 7 years ago to escape this nonsense, I had forgotten the oppressive feeling I had while living there, sadly this situation has swept in all the gloom I felt living in Montreal - it is REALLY disgusting (particularly seen from the outside), how controlling the Quebec government is.

    Good Morning,

I am so fed up with the PQ, OQLF and the Bloc and any other party witch they are part of. One solution only, the federal government must dismantle all sectors of this PQ government. Even better, maybe we need another invasion of the English but this time not giving them any rights to the french language, french schools and churches etc......
