Maeve Binchy Remembered
Bestselling Irish author Maeve Binchy, one of Ireland's most popular writers died in Dublin this week after a brief illness. She was 72 years old. She was best known for her depictions of human relationships and their crises, mainly in the small towns of Ireland but also in London. She touched so many lives, sold more than 40 million copies and her books have been translated into 37 languages.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Maeve's twice in the past. Once a planned interview the other a surprise. In 1996, Gazette Cartoonist and CJAD regular, Terry Mosher began a six book collaboration with Irish poet and broadcaster Gordon Snell with Oh, Canadians! and I booked an interview with them. I didn't know it at the time but the woman tagging along for that interview was Gordon's wife Maeve.
Terry knew Maeve personally and shared some of his many memories with us.
