Video of a "chilling" orca whale attack
A shocking, 15-minute video that would have perhaps have never seen the light day, it it were not for the work of one writer.
David Kirby, author of Death at SeaWorld, an expose of the dark side of the industry, made a freedom of information request for the video. It was used in the trial between SeaWorld and the state of California in the death of Dawn Brancheau, a trainer killed by an orca, Tilikum, a few years after the video was shot. The judge in the case called the video "chilling."
The video shows Kasatka the whale attacking an experienced trainer named Ken Peters back in 2006. After 9 minutes in, a panicked Peters slipping in the water to get away from Kasatka.
