Did rapper Manu Militari go too far with this video?

Posted By: Dan Delmar · 9/12/2012 10:54:00 AM

Quebec rapper Manu Militari is one of today's musical selections on The Ric and Suzanne Show; he debuted his new album last night at Le Nationale.

He caused quite the controversy in June when he released a music video for "l'Attente," where he raps about killing Western soldiers. It was especially controversial because it was funded by a grant from Heritage Canada worth over $100,000.

Watch his music video below and let us know what you think: Art or offensive?

Yes. The video went too far.

Not only does the artist 'rap' about killing Western soldiers, the video depicts the the ambush and execution of Canadian soldiers.

I am a combat veteran of Afghanistan who suffers from an Operational Stress Injury. I was very upset the first time I saw this video. My experience in Afghanistan, mostly in the Panjawi district was the most difficult time of my life.

I can appreciate that the artist wishes to portray an alternative view, but is it really necessary to show such graphic images of violence? To portray the execution of a Canadian?

Canadian soldiers, like myself, do not deserve to be executed in reality or in art.

Our grants are good enough for him but our soldiers fighting for freedom are not. Does he realize he got this grant because of the sacrifice our soldiers have made and the pain they are enduring upon their return?

I would like to know the process of getting these grants and how they are approved. Shouldn't a script be submitted?

I think this video shows just how hard and dangerous it is for our troops in the Middle East. Time for all of them to be brought home now. They are not appreciated there, and there is no reason for 1 more soldier to give their life for a fight we will never win.

    God Bless Our Troops!!!
