Conseil du Patronat: Do business in French (VIDEO)
The Conseil du Patronat du Québec (the group representing business-owners in the province) is launching a campaign to encourage entrepreneurs to do business in French.
They held a major conference on the French language Monday in conjunction with the OLF. They exchanged views on various issues related to the application of the law and unveiled a promotional video designed for employers. Entitled "French Works! the video presents the testimonies of several business leaders and experts through concrete examples and original initiatives.
Although I don't think the law needs to be toughened I think the Conseil is taking a reasonable approach in both promoting the language and warning the government that any changes should not precede without consulting them.
President Yves Thomas Dorval said "It is certainly advantageous and profitable for a company to invest in French as a working language and language of service. In this regard, we are pleased that the OLF is committed to prioritize a flexible approach and in finding practical solutions that take into account the reality of each employer. This approach fits in perfectly with the Conseill and will promote smarter regulation aimed first at performance targets rather than process and how to apply uniformly to all businesses regardless of their features, " says Dorval.
They also caution the government that trademarks or eventual toughening of the law can impact business, suggesting any intention to change in this regard must be preceded by a thorough impact analysis, appropriate consultations with affected organizations and consideration of issues it may raise.
Watch the video and let me know what you think below. I'll be reading your responses on the show from time to time between noon and 1 pm.
