On a very windy weekend the race got off to an exciting start but after the opening laps things slowed down. Alonso was fifth on the grid but used an aggressive start to blow past his rivals and take control of the race which ended with Fernando breezing to the top of the podium, Kimi Raikkonen in second and Felipe Massa in third. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso secured a commanding and hugely-popular home victory at Barcelona executing a four-stop tyre strategy to perfection to soundly beat Lotus’s Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari team mate Felipe Massa coming from ninth on the grid to finish third. Raikkonen has at least cut triple world champion Sebastian Vettel's lead at the top of the standings to four points, with the German in fourth.
