Convicted Killer in Montreal Play - NO

Posted By: Sharman Yarnell · 4/7/2011 1:07:00 PM
Bertrand Cantat is a musician - not an actor.  Bertrand Cantat is the convicted murderer of Marie Trintingant - mother of four children.

He served his time - paid his meager dues. Now he's coming to Quebec to perform in a production at Theatre du Nouveau Monde. (One which is also slated for The National Theatre) He is being brought over by his friend Wajdi Mouawad.

Mouawad is a brilliant playwright ( he wrote "Scorched" on which the film "Incendies" was based.)

He also appears pretty darn good at marketing and publicity! I don't question a criminal's right to seek work and accept what comes his way when he has paid his dues, I would, however, question the moral integrity and professional and artistic integrity of Mouawad. Cantat is his friend - again he is not an actor - he is a musician.  There are plenty of excellent out of work actors ...

THE KENNEDYS

So the Kennedy Family is upset with the way they are being portrayed in the new Mini-Series "The Kennedys" .  The 'clan' feels that there are inaccuracies in the story and mysteriously the History Channel was 'forced' to withdraw the show form its line-up in January.

Reelzchannel picked it up to be played on March 24th but the 'clan' didn't like the sponsor they had signed with. An online infidelity dating site. It was pulled again 11 days before airing.

ReelzChannel notified the advertisers that their legal team had decided to reject the spot, stating in an email: “There are concerns with the spot creative, the actual product that is being offered and its appropriateness in the environment of The Kennedys.”

Outraged at the 11th hour pulling of his commercial, the advertisers responded: "What better fit to debut our new commercial than a mini-series around one of America’s ...

Best Films of All Time as per ABC and People

OMG - ABC and People chose The Sound of Music the #1 Film Musical of All Time!  YUCKERS!! As Chris Plummer would say The Sound of Mucus - right on.
Should be The West Side Story. (it was number 4).

Best Comedy was Airplane
Should be Some Like It Hot. (It was number 3)

Best Screen Kiss - Gone With the Wind - I agree with that - Clark Gable's bad breath and all! I also love the kiss bet Lady and her Tramp. ( That was number 3)

Best Sci-Fi was Star Wars.

Thoughts - what are your favs - don't say The Sound of Music!

Best Irish Films

Posted By: Sharman Yarnell · 3/17/2011 10:27:00 PM
Okay it's that time of year! Everything's Irish and I can get a bit green around the gills with all the hoopla - but I love Irish films!  Here are a few you might like to rent for the weekend.

The Quiet Man with Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne is a real oldie.  One of those films that no one thought would go very far - directed by John Ford who was forced to direct two other films before Republic Pictures would back him in this film based on a 1933 Saturday Evening Post short story by Maurice Walsh.

The Magdalene Sisters is a real shocker - story of young girls brutalized by nuns. The year was 1967!(The Vatican still denys it happened.)

The Commitments is brilliant! About an Irish band - I'll say no more!

Waking Ned Devine - hilarious!

Back to serious - Veronica ...
