Why did Quebec Finance Minister Raymond Bachand make us late for the 10am news?

Posted By: Tommy Schnurmacher · 8/6/2012 1:24:00 PM

Raymond Bachand is Quebec’s high-powered Finance Minister, right? A rather successful one at that. He was in studio with the CAQ’s Stéphane Le Bouyonnec, and PQ veteran Jean-Francois Lisée, who served as advisor to premiers Jacques Parizeau and Lucien Bouchard. We had a rather lively debate on the economy – the half-hour went by very quickly – and I was in the midst of thanking them when all of sudden Bachand pipes in (click audio link on right to hear the clip).

As the segment is at an end, this man, who has control of BILLIONS of dollars, felt it was imperative to ask why the CAQ did not yet have an English website. Can you believe this? This is from the Liberals, who recently hired language inspectors and pumped up the volume to make it more difficult to get a question answered at RAMQ. Que pasa???

Seems to me that this new-found leaping-to-the-defense of the language of Shakesperare has everything to do with discrediting the CAQ and keeping the Anglo sheep in the Liberal fold. Have your say and leave a comment.

It took the Liberals 3 days to get their own site up, and, interestingly enough, the same amount of time for my Liberal MNA to answer my questions on said issue. The Liberals are clearly (and should be) worried that the CAQ will steal from their base (the PQ base is safe because the CAQ are not, allegedly, separatist) which would cost them election. The only people who win by having the CAQ around are the PQ, because it pretty much assures them election victory while the CAQ and Liberals split the Liberal vote. And then, a referendum will be soon to follow. Best thing that could happen to Federalists is for Jean Charest to step down, have the CAQ merge with the Liberals and form a party with Francois Legault as head. So, basically, we're screwed.

Ridiculous. The Liberals seem to be grasping at/for anything. Do they "see" The populous wanting change? It doesn't seem that comment had much bark...
