Marsch on Nesta offer: "it's complicated"
On the heels of back to back loses, The Montreal Impact are hoping to give the team a boost with the addition of 36 year old Italian central defender Alessandro Nesta.
Coach Jesse Marsch admitted today that while they'd love to have the Serie A veteran, nothing is finalized.
“The opportunity to have a guy like Nesta on your team would be a great one and we’d be in a very fortunate position to be able to come to terms with him. I’m not sure where it’s all going to go, it’s complicated. The good part is it’s fair to say that Alessandro wants to be here. So we’re going to figure out what that means and deal with the league and do what we can and see if we can make this happen.”
The Impact will get a chance to stop the losing streak tomorrow night as they welcome Sporting KC to Saputo Stadium. It will be the second matchup of the season between the two teams. The Impact won the first match 2-0 on May 5, which coincidentally was Montreal’s only road win so far this season.
Unfortunately, if history repeats itself, a win tomorrow doesn't look good. All three times so far this year that the Impact played a team twice, they won the first matchup and then lost the second.
Impact defender Zarek Valentin admits that his team needs to increase their intensity when facing a team the second time.
“There’s a certain surprise factor that’s not there, but I think that’s when the talent shows out. We had a great win last time we went there, but I can promise you that’s all in their mind. That’s going to be preached in the locker room. So we need to come out with the same fight and intensity that we did the first time. Because if we do that and battle our butts off I think we can hopefully have another good result like we did there.”
