Bernier upstages De Rosario, Impact streak alive
Patrice Bernier had a foot in every Impact goal of a 3-0 win over DC United, closing the Impact to just 1 point of 5th place DC United. Bernier scored on a penalty at the 50' mark and then on a stunning individual effort at the 92' mark after Marco DiVaio had opened the scoring for Montreal early.
Bernier, a recent addition to Team Canada, completely stole the show against Dwayne De Rosario, widely acclaimed as Canada's best player right now. De Rosario did not start and only subbed in the 61st minute. He thought he'd set up a teammate for an easy tap-in only to have Troy Perkins make a sliding stop to rob DC United.
The Impact have now won 5 in a row, improving their record at Saputo Stadium to 8-2. Bernier leads the club in scoring with 8 goals, 8 assists.
Di Vaio scored his 3rd goal after several offsides, scoring in 3 straight games now. He could easily have had 2 more in the 2nd half.
Impact president Joey Saputo had Canadiens centre Lars Eller as his guest at the game.
Captain Davy Arnaud left Saputo Stadium limping badly, even though he toughed up a number of hard knocks on the pitch.
