Impact set for Canadian Championship matchup
The Montreal Impact was at practice this morning, in preparation for Wednesdays Canadian Championship matchup against Toronto FC.
The impact is coming off a bi-week after a 1 -1 draw against Columbus at the Impact's home “re”-opener at Saputo Stadium last Sunday. With the draw, Montreal slipped to second in the East behind Kansas City, but with two games in hand.
Assistant coach Mauro Biello says it’s important to get a win on Wednesday to increase their confidence for when the two teams square off again next week at Saputo.
“They played Saturday, a tough match, against Houston but they’re at home. And we always have to respect a team that is at home. And they’ve been difficult to play against so we’re also very careful in the way we want to approach this game. The idea is to get a result in Toronto. And if we’re able to get a result in Toronto, it puts us in on good footing for our game in the second leg.”
Young defender Karl Ouimette laced up alongside Alessandro Nesta against the Crew last Sunday with Matteo Ferrari out as a late scratch. He did pretty well considering the pressure of playing with one of the game’s greatest central defenders. And now he's excited to battle it out in the Canadian Championships
“I’m a Canadian so i’m proud of it. It’s a nice tournament. And it’s going to make us prove what team we are and that we can be the best team in Canada this year.”
