Just days after his birthday, and only a few weeks from the London Olympics Alexandre Despatie is recovering in a Spanish hospital after surgery to close a serious gash on his forehead.

Despatie was injured during training for a Grand Prix of Diving event in Madrid.   He was put under for the surgery to close a 10cm gash near the top of his forehead.

Initial indications are there is no internal injury and no signs of post-concussion symptom trouble.

Despatie's mother Christiane says she recieved a text from her son and says she has to remain optimistic that he will be able to recover in time for the Summer Games.
