After much controversy organizers of the child beauty pageant that was supposed to be held in Laval on November 27, say it will be postponed because of security concerns.
Many were up in arms about the announcement of the child beauty pageant coming to Quebec back in September and an online petition against it got over 50 000 signatures.
Now, in an online statement, the National Canadian Girl Pageant says it is postponing the event because "a group of adults is making the kids feel unsafe.”
“We refuse to put these children in harms way and are shocked by this 'adult' behavior, and they should be ashamed of themselves!”
“This answer is really unacceptable, nobody in Quebec wanted this contest, I think it’s a really stupid and arrogant answer from the organizers,” Léa Clairemont-Dion, who started the petition, told CJAD.
The event would have been open to girls from 0-19 years of age. A new date for the pageant has yet to be determined.
