One of the candidates running for borough mayor of the Plateau-Mont-Royal is promoting his candidacy as an economic booster of the area.
Martin Boyer is running as an independent.
If elected he says he would reduce parking meter rates to $2 an hour, and would legalize the use of marijuana use in some public areas.
His plan would be to issue permits for local bars and restaurants.
He figures the marijuana permits alone would be worth an additional half-million dollars a year in revenue.
Two things against him on that point, marijuana falls under federal jurisdiction, and of course his supporters would have to remember to vote on Sunday.
