The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed defenceman Alexei Emelin to a new four-year, $16.4 million contract.
Emelin, the team's leading hitter, hasn't played since last April, when he injured his left knee during a game with the Boston Bruins in April.
Today, he skated for the first time since then on the practice ice in Brossard.
It's not clear when he'll be ready for game action.
The 27-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
