Officials at the Suroit hospital in Valleyfield appear to have access to the services of an oncologist once again.
A couple of weeks ago, reports surfaced that it didn't have one — the only oncologist the hospital had on staff went on maternity leave, forcing dozens of chemotherapy treatments to be put on hold.
Almost as soon as the story broke, the hospital had lined up a replacement oncologist for that weekend, and a hospital spokesperson suggests that hospital remains available to them.
As a result of the publicity generated by the story, another oncologist has volunteered his services for six months.
The spokesperson says the hospital is in the process of vetting his credentials.
