CN says redesigning tanker cars most important issue from Lac-Megantic

The head of Canada's largest railway says crude oil tankers must be redesigned to avoid another tragedy like last summer's deadly explosion in Lac-Megantic.

Canadian National Railway CEO Claude Mongeau told a business group Tuesday that tank car design was one of ``the most important systematic issues'' arising from the accident.

Railway industry associations in Canada and the United States have recently recommended the gradual replacement of old cars with new, reinforced tankers.

    There was a fire that caused all this. One of the reasons all the brakes were not set. But no one said how that fire was started was intentional or accident.
