The Montreal Canadiens will now be running the Montreal International Jazz Festival — sort of.
The Molson family's CH group, which owns the Habs, has now taken over Équipe Spectra, the group that runs the Jazz festival, and the Francofolies.
Geoff Molson and jazz festival founder Alain Simard made the announcement this morning at a news conference in Montreal.
Under the new arrangement, Simard will continue to run the jazz festival, and no major organizational changes are expected.
Conversations with the CH group, he says, began a few years ago, while several other groups from outside Quebec were putting forward their own proposals.
