Police take down pot production network in the Laurentians

About 90 officers from the RCMP, SQ and local police forces north of Montreal took part in a series of raids on Wednesday morning aimed at taking down a major pot-growing and distribution network.

The officers conducted 14 raids in places like Blainville, Ste. Thérèse, Mont-Tremblant, Lachute, and Rawdon, among others — raids which led to the arrests in 8 people.

This morning's raids shut down 6 grow-ops in rented houses — one of which was used as a centre for processing and packaging the pot — and in one business.

For the moment, it's not clear what charges the suspects may face, though it's likely they could be looking at charges of marijuana production, possession for the purposes of trafficking, and even gansgterism.

The investigation into the network began in May.
