Eighteen months for child porn

A Montreal minor league hockey trainer was sentenced to 18 months in prison on child pornography charges.

Gilles Lajoie was arrested in 2012 and police found 22,000 images of boys on his computer, some of them graphically sexual.

The crown requested more than the minimum sentence because Lajoie used his position of trust as an employee at the Claude Robillard Centre to film children between ages 8 and 12 changing in locker rooms.

But Lajoie's lawyer says he has voluntarily entered therapy and hopes to continue being treated both while in prison and after he's released.

Lajoie will also be under a number of strict conditions upon his release designed to keep him away from children.

As a registered sex offender Lajoie will be under sporadic police surveillance the rest of his life.

EIGHTEEN MONTHS??? That's all? This will amount to what after time served and good behaviour? 6 months? This is a total farce!!! You'd probably get a stiffer penalty for a language offense in this province or unpaid parking tickets. Unbelievable.
