AMT to launch commuter rail parking fee project

The cash-strapped Metropolitan Transit Agency will launch a pilot project next spring to test the feasibility of introducing fees for parking in AMT train station parking lots.

Initially, five to-be-determined train stations will be targeted and pricing is yet to be determined.

The CEO of the AMT Nicolas Girard says Montreal is one of the few cities in North America that does not charge for commuter rail parking, and each line and all regions will be examined before a decision is made on where pay parking will be implemented.

Vaudreuil- Dorion Mayor Guy Pilon, is Chairman of the Montreal Transportation Commission and he says he has concerns about the impact pay parking may have on the streets near train stations, fearing car owners may try to avoid paying by parking in nearby neighbourhoods.

Are they serious - They gauge and gauge, Why do they want to do this now, so they can give bigger bonuses to the fat cat's. This will really discourage people from leaving their car. The cost of train and metro are so high as it is, I do not see how a working class person can afford anymore - enough enough!!! what was nicolas Girard's bonus this year, what is his problem was it not enough. I have not received a bonus in 5 years, but all these
fat cats get one every year. no bonus barely a raise, but all expenses go up!!

Leave it to the AMT to find a way to discourage people from taking public transit. If they're going to charge for parking at the station, then they need to open free park & ride lots further out to encourage people to drive less.

If they charge for parking, will there be better security for the parked cars?

WOW! Average service + increasing prices every year and now parking? Isn't $105/month and up enough? I see people parking at the train stations only to go take a bus, or better yet parking there and meeting someone to get a lift into the city.. Maybe these guys should pay, and give actual train pass holders free parking... And as with all public transit in this city, the worst is only yet to come
