Canada Post community mailboxes will be a challenge for Montreal

With Canada Post cancelling its door to door delivery within the next 5 years, some urban planners are speaking out against Canada Post's community mailboxes.

They say in Montreal's dense boroughs, such as the plateau, putting group mailboxes will eat into already limited public space and cause traffic jams.

And that with the amount of residents living on the plateau, we could need 100 mailboxes per 100 meters.

Currently community mailboxes have an average of 36 units.

“We certainly know that it will be a challenge,” Anick Losier, spokesperson for Canada Post, said.

Losier added that experts are working on it but do not have solutions yet.

Some urban planners say incorporating the mailboxes in commercial space could be a possibility.

What rights will homeowners have if they do not want these cluster of community boxes placed on their property or in front of their homes just because they happen to be located on the corner?
