Tax man goes after Kahnawake family

Revenue Quebec is seeking 16-million dollars in unpaid tobacco taxes from three members of a Mohawk family living in South Shore Kahnawake.

Peter Rice and his sons Burton and Peter Junior were arrested back in 2009 in connection with an investigation into a contraband cigarette ring run by the Hells Angels.

At the time, Montreal police, with help from Mohawk Peacekeepers, raided a tobacco warehouse in Kahnawake.

The Rices were charged and even though their trial is pending, Revenue Quebec is proceeding with the tax case.

La Presse reports that the ministry has slapped a lien on a family-owned home in Lachine and is going after vehicles and a boat.
