Champlain Bridge down to one lane southbound tonight

There'll be still more work Thursday night on the Champlain Bridge, which will force the bridge to go down to one lane in the southbound direction, starting from 9 p.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday.

Barriers need to be installed along the so-called 'superbeam', so authorities can finally reopen the third southbound lane on the bridge.

Officials with the federal bridge authority say they'll be able to confirm the reopening of the lane if the work goes well.

The 'superbeam' was installed nearly three weeks ago as a temporary fix for a small crack in one of the bridge's support beams.
