Because the weather will not be cooperating, the bridges authority has been forced to go with its second choice for traffic configuration during repairs to the Mercier Bridge this weekend.
The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated had hoped to keep traffic flowing in both directions on Saturday, during repairs to the concrete on the southbound side of the span. However, because snow is in the forecast, it feels having one lane in each direction on the northbound side could be dangerous due to possibly slippery conditions and the need to use snow-clearing equipment.
Therefore, there will be no southbound traffic on the bridge Saturday from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Motorists heading to the South Shore are advised to use the Champlain or Jacques Cartier bridges or Highway 30.
