All I want for Christmas is electricity

Homes and businesses across the province of Quebec are gradually having power restored, but the hardest hit areas continue to be the Eastern Townships and the Montérégie regions.

Hydro Quebec said the area was doused with a thick layer of ice bringing town trees and coating power lines.

“There’s a lot of ice on the grid and we have to remove it before the power can be restored,” said Geneviève Dufort with Hydro Quebec.

Fallen trees are also making the task much more difficult for hydro crews, and snow clearing teams.

“The firemen are out trying to clear the roads,” said Lac-Brome mayor Richard Burcombe. “A lot of trees are in the road preventing snowplows from going through.”

Hydro cannot promise electricity will be restored to all before the evening of Christmas – meaning may kids may be opening gifts left from Santa by candlelight.

I hope that people affected by the power outages will have their electricity back for Christmas Eve and on. And thanks to all hydro people working around the clock trying to make it happened. All the best and have a merry Christmas !
