Small fire prompts full evacuation of Rockland shopping center

Electrical panel may have caught fire

Firefighters say a small fire at the Rockland Shopping Center prompted a full evacuation Sunday afternoon.

Not much is known about the blaze, although police say an electrical panel may be the culprit.

Brenda Shaffer, who was in the shopping center at the time, called CJAD News.

She said a bell went off, which, at first was ignored, but then shop keepers were telling everyone to head for the exits.

"Everybody had to just get out as soon as they could to any exit they could find and the parking and garage was pure mayhem", said Shaffer.

There were no apparent injuries.

An investigation has been launched.
