Freight train derails, catches fire in NB

Emergency crews at scene of train derailment in NB.

Several homes in northern New Brunswick have been evacuated east Plaster Rock after a CN freight train derailed and caught fire.

The village's emergency measures co-ordinator says it's unclear how big the fire is or whether anyone was hurt.

Sharon DeWitt also says only a few cars derailed, but she didn't know what they were carrying.

She says the train derailed about five kilometres from the village in a wooded area.

DeWitt says there is one road near the site, which includes a number of homes.
