MNA's daughter in court for assault trial

The daugher of Quebec solidaire MNS Amir Khadir appeared in court with her boyfriend Xavier-Philippe Beauchamp today.

They are on trial for the alleged assault of Journal de Montreal photographer Chantal Poirier on May 22, 2012.

The incident occured as the pair was leaving a Montreal courtroom with several other Maple Spring student protesters.

Poirier, who testified earlier today, said Machouf-Khadir punched her camera, which then hit her. Poirier then passed out.

Machouf-Khadir did not testify today, but Beauchamp did.

He said he felt afraid and intimidated by the number of journalists and photographers waiting for him outside a Montreal court room.

He claimed he was acting defensively and had no intention of hitting Poirier. He simply extended his arm to block her camera lens. He also gave her the finger.

Machouf-Khadir's parents, grandmother and several friends were also in court. Amir Khadir said he was there to support his daughter and that the judge would decide the final outcome.

How proud khadir must be of his useless daughter, a vandal and criminal. I only hope that she gets what she deserves when she's found guilty. She should get jail time, fines and compensate for all damages.

Get ready folks, I hear the two sets of law train coming down the track. One for politicians and their spawn and one for the rest of us.
