Woman sues airport for unwanted ride

A Laval woman has filed an $80,000 lawsuit against Aéroports de Montréal claiming lingering injuries from a ride she took on a baggage conveyer belt.

Fatima Sellaoui says back in January of 2011, she was at the airport with her two-year old son checking in for a flight to Algeria.

While she was at the counter, her son scrambled onto the conveyer belt and was whisked away.

She jumped on boardand the pair went on a conveyer belt ride for a few hundred meters  into the bowels of the  sorting area before being spotted and rescued by a baggage handler.

She eventually made her flight but is claiming permanent physical injuries that require her to take painkillers on a daily basis.

Her son was not injured.

Ok...give her the 80 thousand....then charge her 80 thousand for the "rescue operation" that involved the baggage handlers. Then a trespassing fine for entering a forbidden zone.

If she would have been taking care of her child she wouldn't have needed to take the ride, besides, nobody told her to get on the conveyor. Always the same, people do stupid thing, then when they get hurt it's not their fault, there must be somebody else to blame!

@z1000rider Absolutely right ! I work at the airport and I see parents all the time letting their kids do what they want and when we tell to be careful that the kids could get hurt, they snap at us and tell us to mind our own business .the nerve !!!! She lets her kid on the belt and we have to pay the price .

As long as courts let people file frivolous lawsuits stemming from a total lack of personal responsibility, there will be no justice in Canada.

There will also be an excess of 'ambulance-chasing' lawyers, looking for ever more ridiculous suits.

When you have children in a very public and chaotic place, YOU need to look after them. They are YOUR responsibility.

This woman should be investigated to ensure she knows how to properly care for children, as her actions indicate that all is not well!

Really ? Her child got away from her and she took off after him. How is that the Airport's fault ?? Does anyone take responsibility for their own actions anymore ??

Yes it is the airlines fault this woman is a bad parent.
Hundreds of people around, no reason to keep a close eye on your child.

Scam artist if you ask me. Unbelievable that someone doesn't watch their
child in such a public place where a kidnapping could easily take place.

I work there and I can, with 100% certainty, tell you people do NOT watch their kids in an airport!

Absolutely correct on all comments below. Some people will do anything and claim anything to get money. There are signs on the conveyer belts. Does she think that the airlines are now in the baby sitting business?

Oh give me a break lady , it took you two years to make a claim . Perhaps looking after your child is the priority ????

SHE should have been arrested for child endangerment. Why is it that it's always someone else's fault, never the parent. She must have found a bloodsucking personal injury lawyer after 2 years. IT"S YOUR FAULT LADY!

I guess it only started to hurt when she got back from her trip. I think the airport should sue her for the inconvenience to others who probably had to wait for their bags and then the child welfare should investigate on how she endangered her child.
