Fund to help residents of burned-out NDG building

An NDG woman has set up a fundraising web site in support of two young NDG men who lost everything in the devastating apartment fire on Jan. 10 that claimed the lives of a young man and woman.

Catherine Harding told CJAD's Barry Morgan says her reaction was automatic when she heard that one of her friends had lost everything in the blaze.

"I put a simple $1,000 goal, and we reached that within 14 hours," she says.

She's managed to raise close to $3,000 dollars in three days with the website called Please Help Spencer and Stevie.

The friend, Spencer Brown, told Barry Morgan he's delighted with the response.

"It's overwhelming, the support we've had from the community and from our friends and family," Brown says.

One of the two who died in the fire was 22-year-old musician Henry Luke Rachwalski — who only recently moved to Montreal from Victoria, B.C.
