A grieving widower from Barrie, Ontario has gone from Good Samaritan to global inspiration, thanks to a few words scrawled on a napkin.
But Lee Ballantyne's son Jason says his father's decision to pay for the meal of a young couple who reminded him of his late wife is a sign of his parents' strong bond.
Lee Ballantyne had gone out to dinner barely a week after his wife Carol died of lung cancer.
When he spotted a couple in the restaurant who reminded him of happier days with his wife, he wrote them a note on a napkin and quietly paid for their dinner.
The note was posted online and soon went viral.
Jason Ballantyne says the story has touched people around the world because of the universal emotions involved.
He says his parents were high school sweethearts who grew very close over their 43 years together.
He says his father is still trying to come to terms with living without his wife.
