Wintery weather chills Dollarama sales

The Montreal-based Dollarama chain is blaming last month's bad weather for a poor sales showing during the usually busy Christmas period.

The chain says store traffic was down significantly after snow and freezing rain hit and 80 of its outlets were forced to close for periods ranging from several hours to two consecutive days.

As a result, sales fell 7.5 percent in December compared with the same period the previous year.

The discount chain says, however, that business is rebounding and January's results should be normal.
