Skier dies at Le Massif, cause unknown

The Sûreté du Québec says a 56-year old man , who died while skiing at le Massif in the Charlevoix yesterday , definitely hit a tree, but they aren't sure how the accident happened.

The man was a volunteer mountain guide.

He failed to show up at an end of day rendez-vous, but police were able to track his whereabouts using the GPS in his smart phone.

A search was launched and the man was found at around 6:30 last night, off trail in a wooded area.

He was rushed to hospital in nearby Baie-Saint-Paul, but died later.

Police speculate he lost control, or suffered some sort of medical condition such as a heart attack while skiing.

There will be an autopsy, and police and officials from the Worker Health and safety Board will investigate.
